Codex Alimentarius: Homegrow or Harmonize

The Great Harmonization This article was originally published in Far West Almanac July 2008. Last month we witnessed events such as the immense destruction from Cyclone Nargis which continues to kill people in Burma/Myanmar, the earthquakes in China and Peru, and continuing food riots around the world. Food and fuel prices have risen drastically with more [...]

The Heart of Maizeland

Article published in the Far West Almanac May 2008 Ginitsi Selu/Grandmother Corn: Harmony, Respect, Community, Healing Lately when I find myself thinking about roots, it isn’t long until I start thinking about corn. Edible corn originated in Central America, a gift of the creator in the form of a “catastrophic sexual mutation” about 7,000 years [...]

Himalayan Crystal Salt

Healing with Himalayan Crystal Salt After I contracted typhoid more than a year ago at a pagoda in Yangon/Rangoon, Burma/Myanmar I was put on a course of serious anti-bacterial medication for ten days which completely wiped out any beneficial flora I had established in my intestines. Not only does it take at least three months [...]

A Little About Me:
I grew up in Papua New Guinea, went to high school in Malaysia, college in Los Angeles and culinary school in New York. I have cooked from Burma/Myanmar to New Zealand and have found there is always more to learn about food and about people through food. I love to travel, cook, study, garden and hang out online learning what is going on out there in the world. Exciting times we live in, I just hope we can create a better world for the next generations.
A Little About My Business
Mouth of Babes is an internet tv series that demonstrates fun, practical and highly nourishing methods of feeding your growing babies (both within and without of your body).

In a series of 4-8 minute episodes our stars Ruthie and Mikko show how to involve local community and other fun sustainable activities that are vital to raising healthy brains and bodies.

We have just completed filming our first 9 episodes and are looking for sponsors who we will credit both in our videos and link to on our sites.

Favourite Word or Quote:
As long as there is poverty in the world I can never be rich, even if I have a billion dollars. As long as diseases are rampant and millions of people in this world cannot expect to live more than twenty-eight or thirty years, I can never be totally healthy even if I just got a good checkup at Mayo Clinic. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the way our world is made. No individual or nation can stand out boasting of being independent. We are interdependent.

Children of Burma

I am so tired tonight, it is so sad to see the videos and photos of the horrible destruction that continues, and the images of hungry children. It is nice to have a place like this where we can find support and know that the world is putting prayers, energy and physical aid out to the people of Burma. I am just going to mention this...my mother is currently here with us, because my sister has just had a baby. She grew up in Burma and speaks Burmese fluently. In 1996 she went back to Burma and f… Continue

Genetically Modified Mosquitoes!

Hi all, I just was reading this article about these mosquitoes and couldn't believe it...what next... This is just a couple excerpts... "Millions of transgenic mosquitoes are to be released into the fishing village of Pulau Ketam off Selangor, Malaysia, as part of an international series of field trials to fight dengue fever [1]. The technique, which has won Oxitec the Technology Pioneers 2008 award at the World Economic Forum, involves releasing transgenic male Aedes mosquitoes carrying a ‘k… Continue

Regarding Donations to Help In Burma

I have been getting a lot of comments from people about what is being said on the news regarding donating to the tragedy in Burma. This is a first hand report from a family member about the situation. They know what they are doing and are honest and direct reporters. There are ways to help the people in Burma.... May 12, 2008 Dear All, I know you are hearing a lot on the news about what isn’t going well here in terms of delivery of assistance to cyclone survivors. You’re hearing about supply… Continue

Burmese Victims of Cyclone Nargis

Following is a message from Burma describing the situation: Because the cyclone went farther south than expected, it stayed over water and therefore maintained strength and hit several townships, including Mawlamyine, which was never predicted. On the way, it significantly destroyed 8 townships (think of them as large counties) where the loss of human life is currently estimated to be between 90-95%. Beyond the eight townships suffering the worst, the outlying townships around metropolitan Yang… Continue

More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Monsanto

For those of us who value life, diversity and good food this documentary is a must watch. I have been hearing more and more about this company Monsanto. This documentary is well researched and very clear in what this company is up to. I knew that they were a nasty bunch but I hadn't known that they were the ones who created Agent Orange, aspartame and PCBs Don't miss this documentary... Monsanto Documentary

Glad you like it! I've gone through so many different colours and designs since I started this site - but I think I'm there with the header - at last!
Thought I'd get up and do some work as husband is snoring his head off and I'm likely to commit murder if I have to have it droning in my ear any longer! It's 5.45am and freezing!!
