A Little About Me:
I work for a major High Street Bank. I'm a Mum to Lucy, age six. My main hobbies are walking and reading. I LOVE books, particularly the Chalet School stories written by Elinor Brent-Dyer. My website started out initially as an aid to collecting, where I sold off duplicates of books I already had. Then I discovered that lots of the Chalet School books I had read as a child in the Armada paperback editions were heavily abridged. I tried getting some of the stories in hardback, but they were scarce and expensive. Then Ann and Clarissa, who run the society 'Friends of the Chalet School' decided to start Girls Gone By Publishers and republish lots of the old Chalet School stories. They used text and illustrations from the original hardbacks, and often the books would include publishing histories and other extras, such as unpublished short stories. Things really took off when fans decided to write 'fill-in' Chalet School stories. I decided to take the plunge and become a dealer for Girls Gone By, and things haven't really looked back since then.
A Little About My Business
My books are mainly modern reprints of rare or sought after children's stories. My stock includes books by publishers such as Girls Gone By, who produce high quality copies of collectable titles in an attractive and affordable format.

I sell books by Elinor Brent-Dyer, Lorna Hill, Antonia Forest, Elsie J. Oxenham, Dorita Fairlie-Bruce, Gwendoline Courtney, Clare Mallory, Margaret Biggs, Violet Needham, Josephine Elder, Monica Edwards and many others!

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your kind comments! I guess the 'leap' into the going-it-alone abyss was made easier for me as I made the final decision when I was on maternity leave and so kind of felt like I'd already left my secure, full time position. It is a scary step though and I can understand your situation entirely, especially when you talk about the 'leaner' months!

Looks like an interesting business you have, good luck with everything and stick at it!

Hi Jan,

Thanks for sharing the book swap sites! I'll have a good look into those when I have time. I wanted to start a book swap here on Web Mums within the book group but I haven't had the time to oversee it and let everyone know yet.
I absolutely love books and hope to write my own ... one day!
Anyway - thanks again for the links and descriptions of each site - really useful!
