Okay. So
Nikki tagged me. An explanation and rules for how tagging works can be found at the end of this post.
And now I have got time to list "my" 25 things as my other half has gone out with his friends :-).
So here goes:
.I was born in Stuttgart, Germany 50 years ago. A true Swabian..
.When I was 4 years old I hit my head on a concrete bollard which caused the skull to crack in that area - near the temple - and my mother to freak out after first huffing it off. When she saw the blood though she raced me to the local doctor who took the biggest needle I ever saw to sew my skin together...it will always stick in my mind.
.We lived near Lake Constance for most of my early life. I loved it. The neighbour was a farmer and a hunter who owned a land rover and 2 dachshund dogs one of which gave birth to 4 adorable puppies which she promptly brought over to our house to be spoilt...
.I have a sister who is 2 years younger than me. We didn't get on until I was 18 and now we are really good friends. Okay, so she gets on my nerves sometimes but I am sure I get on hers too :-)
.My father died 5 years ago of lung cancer. I am still not over his death. I cannot get over the fact that one day he was a healthy man in his 70s and the next I was told there was nothing they could do for him. He died 3 months after being diagnosed and I watched his slow demise over that time - it hurt like hell and it still does. I have never experienced such great emotional pain and I know now that time won't heal my pain.
.I have three dogs and I am utterly devoted to them. One of them is a border collie that we adopted from a neighbour who went into hospice - we promised him to look after Judy. She knew she landed on her feet the day she moved in... much to the chagrain of my other female dog, Bess, a little terrier who has become quite a terror over time :-)
.I love nature and wildlife. And I am a great believer in that we can save our planet if we give people the opportunity to have a good education and take responsibility for themselves and their environment. I believe in trade, not aid.
.I moved to London in 1990 because I had enough of German society. I thought most people there were selfish and utterly devoted to earning money. I have mellowed a lot over the last 19 years and I now see that we have a great sense of humour - despite of what the rest of the world believes! I watch German television almost every day and it cracks me up - such funny comedies and so spot on. Unbelievable!
.I yearn to live in a sunnier climate. Nearly achieved that dream when we moved to Spain 3 years ago. Sadly my partner hated it and we moved back to England after 5 months. We have now sold our finca and to be honest - I am glad. Looking back I now know it wouldn't have worked out. We should have moved to North Carolina or Tasmania...
.When I was 23 I fell madly in love with a gorgeous, tall, blond, green eyed German man. I have no idea why he wanted to be with me but we ended up a couple. It didn't last. I can still feel the intensity of that relationship and not one day goes by where I think what could have been had my mother not interfered the way she did. She didn't like him and that was that.
.I met my partner when I was 35. In a pub in West Hampstead. Through a social network called Nexus. We have been together for 15 years.
.I speak 4 languages: German, English, Swabian and French. I do speak a bit of Spanish and I understand Italian. Nowadays I dream and think in English and my German friends say that I "lost" my native language because very often I can't remember the German words...
.My aim is to turn Cebra, my fairtrade online business, into a recognized brand for eco chic with quality and style. I don't believe I need celebrity endorsement for that as the idea and the products speak for themselves. It is hard work but I am 100% devoted to it and I know it will take time. But I will get there.
.I like walking. I own a car but it sits in the driveway most of the time. I just can't be bothered using it because everything I need I can buy from local shops and I have the most wonderful beach and forest right at my doorstep. I look forward to summer because then I can use my bicycle which I haven't done in 10 years.
.I am a steam cleaning nerd. I discovered steam cleaners 2 months ago and I use them on a daily basis. Yes, I have TWO. A small one for the sink and so on and a big one for the floor. No more floor cleaners, cream cleaners, wipes, sprays for this and that. Just the steam will sanitize and freshen up everything.
.I don't know how I lived without email and computers. It is my connection to the world. I love meeting people and it is so easy now via the internet. I haven't come across a weirdo or stalker - yet. I believe if I use my senses then I can check out who is good and who is not.
.I love music. I adore Billy Ocean. Fabulous musician. I also like classical music and French chansons. Basically anything that is not rap crap or monotonous wish wash.
.My next task is to produce a proper video for my ecommerce site. It would be great to have videos for every single item I have on offer but that is a monster task - mind I have an idea and all I need is one of those funky new small video cameras that don't break the bank...
.I hate ironing. Full stop. I stopped ironing anything 3 years ago. Can't face it, boring, won't do it.
.When I was younger I did a lot of sewing and knitting. I became an expert, making my own clothes and knitting some fabulous sweaters. I wanted to be a fashion designer. It never happened possibly because I just didn't have the stamina to pull it off. Lost interest and instead studied librarianship and art. I worked in an archive for 3 years and became an expert in World War II and the Third Reich. My boss had a collection of 300,000 photos of battleships and I can't believe now that I found that interesting.....Mind, I met some hugely interesting people whilst working there.
.I am sorry but I hate soaps. How dull can one be? What's the purpose of it all? Lots of shouting, screaming, madness and problems that I could solve within a day. Give me CSI Miami any day - I love Horatio. And Hugh Jackman - sigh...
.I think it is important not to look back in anger. Look back in astonishment and see where you are right now. Some people say, don't look back at all, look forward. I do look back because I like to evaluate where I am right now and what I could do better and because I like to learn from mistakes I made. Not looking back means not to face one's future. I have good memories and I like to share them.
.I love dancing. When I was a child my mum send me to ballet classes. At first I didn't like them but then I discovered that I was good at ballet. And later on I became really good at ballroom dancing. Shame I didn't pursue that side of me but other things became more important and I can still go for a samba if I fancy one.
.My favourite film is Shrek. Every time I see Eddy Murphy in a movie now I can think only of one creature: "donkey"! And not because of his physical attributes if I may point out and if you will, please! It's the voice. Cracks me up.
.15 years ago I went to the Chelsea Arts Ball with my then BF. We dressed up as musketeers. I wore a moustache, a black wig, a big hat, tights, a cape and over knee boots. Phil Collins passed us in the corridor and stared at me, thinking he knew me from somewhere. I bowed to him and pulled my hat and I never forget his face :-). Inside the ballroom we got chatted up by so many girls who thought we were blokes, it was hilarious. I got quite embarrassed and walked off at some stage only for a blonde goddess coming after me and kissing me! When she realized that I was a girl she was so shocked she fell over and nearly fainted :-) I know now how a guy must feel being pursued by so many pretty girls - absolutely fabulous! If he's straight that is :-) Well, even if he is not he must feel quite chuffed being in such demand.
