Busy Mums' Recipes

We all are in a hurry or busy bringing up our children, in a time consuming job, organising things and lives. Ideally this group offers delicious, healthy, quick recipes and other ideas for a fast and busy lifestyle - including relaxation tips.

Introduction

Apart from fair trade, the environment, my dogs, renovating houses and improving my social skills I have a passion for good food. I don't want to stand in the kitchen cooking for hours. Over the years I have come to appreciate my mum's recipes. Food that is fairly easy to prepare, delicious, healthy and apart from anything else - fresh.

I don't care much about cleaning my house every day - you can't die from a bit of dust, but the wrong diet can kill you. So, I clean my house once a week thoroughly but I prepare fresh food for myself, my lovely partner and my friends (when they come around) every day.

Since I started cooking fresh food my health and that of my partner has improved quite dramatically. We both lost some weight, go for more walks, are in better spirit and feel more energetic - the latter is quite important as we both lead busy lives and run our own businesses.

I would like this group to become a stop for people looking to improve their lives with simple ideas and easy to follow recipes, so if you have a great idea or a recipe - post it here. In terms of ideas I welcome any experiences you have with supplements, relaxation, exercise, mental attitude, great products you found, websites that are worth bookmarking, how to grow your own food in easy steps .........

I second that! Black Cohosh is ace! Also, Milk Thistle is very good for PMS headaches and symptoms too. Works a treat for me!

Another great tip - from me personally this time. If you suffer from hormonal imbalances like PMS or period pain or acne then try and take black cohosh on a daily basis. I have been taking this supplement for over 4 years now and it dramatically changed my life to the better. You can get this herb from any good healthfood store or online from healthydirect. My favourite one is from Jan de Vries and comes as a tincture where you put 20 drops into a little water. Take once a day in the morning before breakfast.

My other half yet again caught another cold virus. Here is a great tip from my friend Helen Hammond: put a drop of eucalyptus oil on each side of your pillow (i.e. to the left and to the right of your head) and some into a cream that you rub under your nose. Keeps the virus away and you nose free. If you dare do the same to your other half's space/nose - I did and nearly got whacked because he already slept :-). Still - it worked and he is feeling much better today. Great tip!

Hi there

I feel as if I spend my life cooking from scratch, all day for my 5 yr old.
He has very low blood sugar levels and becomes unpleasant if they drop too low.
As a result he needs to eat something healthy, combining protein with carbs, every 90 minutes.
It is the snacks I struggle with. I need quick things to prepare that can realistically be taken to school and travel well.
He gets sick of raw vegatables and cheese. I even sent him off with a little box of king prawns this morning to give him some variety!!
He sits in the classroom in the middle of the afternoon eating tuna and couscous.
Help!!
Any ideas!!

Hi
i'm sitting here thinking that i really must cook tea! would love to join your grop, i love food and cooking up new things. It is very challanging as i have a fussy 6 year old and a 8 year old that does'nt really eat anything that the 6 year will eat!! Want to make sure my third and final child eats everything. Also very bored of the same old meals and want to (desperately ) try some new stuff.
