Hello everyone,

It's great to join Web Mums, I've been meaning to for a while now.

I run a collaborative marketing website www.milliondollarwomen.co.uk discovering and promoting particularly good online boutiques, quirky, specialist and independent shops. We grow the site organically by recommendation and word of mouth and only feature businesses based on personal recommendations.

We won the Best Business to Consumer website at the North East Digital Awards and get great feedback about the site from members and users - Nikki thanks for your kind words.

Web Mums looks to be a fantastic resource that hope I can contribute to as well as learn from, look forward to meeting you and.

Hi everyone. What a great resource.

I have changed two big things in my life resulting in being poorer but so much happier. 1) I moved back to Bournemouth which I think is the best place in the world to live but the salaries are a fraction of that paid North of Southampton and 2) gave up on the corporate world where I've been managing online operations for the likes of RAC and Virgin Media.

I recently launched www.onceuponabelt.com to sell gorgeous belts, most of which you can't find elsewhere in the UK and to offer advice through the site on the great looks that can transform your existing wardrobe or on what belts suit what body shapes. I'm a bit crazy about belts and fashion - beautiful things of high quality really. This is the best work thing I have ever done - just love it! I continue to do website consultancy for various clients while the business gets off the ground and that's much more fun than a 9-5 job except my jobs tended to suck up evenings and many weekends too. Somehow doing the long hours on your fab online business is 10 times more enjoyable. Just wish I didn't dream about business stuff all the time. Does anyone else find that?

Having worked with websites since 1997 I've become an expert in web usability which is a huge player in conversions. At RAC I improved the usability of buying breakdown cover and it led to a doubling of sales from the launch date. It was so good the competition soon had to copy elements of my interaction design. I've written some articles like http://www.sitepoint.com/article/checklists-web-design/ which is a checklist for doing your navigation - hope it will prove useful to some of you interested in e-commerce or wanting a website to represent yourself.

I can't urge you enough to do some user testing of your sites. Any DIY user testing will give you a great return on conversion rates and be a fab insight. A must read book is Steve Krug's "Don't make me think" as a first place to learn about users and making sites easy to use, including how to conduct user tests.

I'm looking forward to exchanging learnings and best practice with you guys on web marketing.

Sorry because I also love writing so tend to get quite verbose.

Hello everyone

I've just joined too, and would love to introduce myself!

I'm Sarah and I'm a married mum to 6 year old Amy. We've lived in Norfolk for about 15 years now, and previously to that in Bath (where I met my husband whilst working at the Theatre Royal there). I was born in Surrey though (so I'm a "posh southerner" as my Lancs husband likes to say - I'm not though, honest!).

I started setting up my online business www.PhotoFairytales.co.uk when Amy started school full time. I spent quite a lot of time researching the idea before starting - I am a bit of a belt and braces kind of person! I'm still in my first year of trading, and so far things are going well and I'm getting fantastic feedback from customers about the work I do (which never fails to give me a thrill!). Basically, I create personalised gifts mostly from customers' own ordinary photos using digital enhancement. I create fantasy images and themes, and personalised spoof magazine covers, amongst other things. If you get a chance I'd love you to take a look at my site and tell me what you think.

I think its great that women in business are so supportive of one another, and I think sites like this are great - both from the point of inspiration/information and ideas, but equally because they provide a great deal of motivation and help. When you work from home it can be an isolating existence, and I think being able to bounce ideas and advice off one another is invaluable.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Sarah x
