As a writer, and a girly-girl, I have always been interested in the subject of love, relationships, femininity and beauty. Yet I know that the beautiful woman, when she has nothing else, has no real advantage over the more average looking woman who is the owner of a fascinating mind. The fascinating mind can make all the difference in the world! That alone can bestow upon the same woman the interest and variety necessary to prevent boredom or satiety in a relationship.
What do you think? Do you think that women need to play it dumb or 'dumb it down' a bit with men?
I think that women need to be themselves, how can you be interesting to someone when its an act be your self, improve yourself and love yourself. If you have to dumb it down a bit maybe he's not the right man for you, how long can you keep up that facade? That's my opinion, I totally agree with you though about being fascinating, its so disappointing that seeing a gorgeous face and then boom nothing remotely interesting to say arggggghhh!
I agree with Victoria. It is very important to be yourself. When I was 21 I was working in an environment full of men and I thought that the only way to communicate with them was to play it dumb and flirt. As I became older I realised that it was the woman who where themselves and who openly voiced their own opinions and ideas that actually gained the respect they deserved. Now that I am in my 30's the notion of playing it dumb seems so absurd. This is however something I have learnt with age. As my daughter grows up I hope that she will learn from my mistakes rather then her own. Woman have worked very hard over the years to gain equality - you wouldn't take a male "bimbo" seriously.
Life would be miserable if you had to 'dumb it down' for men. You'd never be yourself surely?
I've never been in a situation where I've had to do that in my professional life and I guess the nearest comparison I have is perhaps playing a bit naive to get my own way when it suited in my personal life - however that doesn't happen now and it wouldn't wash with my husband at all - lol.
I think that as you get older and times continue to change, it's accepted that a womans mind is actually the most fundamental and attractive part of a woman. It's natural for a man or a woman to be attracted to beauty, that's instinct - but if beauty opens its mouth and all that comes out is ugly, well then I feel that that is a turn off to both a man a woman! (in most cases)
I totally agree with you all. Be yourself, always always!!!!! I worked in a male orientated environment for 15 years, a very technical/engineering type environment. I didn't flirt or dumb it down, I had a laugh with them all (I've got a very sarcastic sense of humour lol). I worked my up the company just being myself and working hard but still being a lady. Like Nikki though, I would sometimes act naive but only in my professional life to get what I wanted, not for personal gain, but for the company's benefit, to gain more information about something perhaps, not in a nasty way or anything. I know that my male customers had a soft spot for me, maybe because I'm a woman, but it was always in a friendly banter way and they enjoyed that side of our business relationship.
It can work the other way though like Nikki says, I remember taking a fancy to a bloke at work (I was single), he was drop dead gorgeous but when he opened his mouth, I just thought naaaaaaa, not for me, conversation was just boring.
In my personal life, I have a wonderful husband, the first person I've ever met who I can be my true self with, warts and all :D. And I tell ya, it's very liberating to be that way, no pretence, real meaning!!
