Hi

Does anyone know how to get the little image icon up there along with your url, i.e. so when someone types in your web address a little image or logo shows up at the front of it.

I'm sure I've seen one somewhere on this site, maybe you know Nikki?

PS I've been telling loadsa people about this site lately as its one of the best for info.

Cheers

Helen

Helen - are you referring to a 'favicon'? This is the little sq icon that appears in urls and next to the site name - I have a WM with a green background which you should hopefuly see?
You need to design your favicon and then upload it to your site - I'm happy to give directions on this if this is what you are referring to!

...Thanks for the lovely comments - very much appreciated!

Yes that's the kiddy. I thought you had one, but I can only see it in Firefox, not IE6, that's why I wondered where it went. Yours is a drag and drop isn't it and I've seen others that are just little company icons and don't do anything, but if you can direct me please, that would be good.

I must find time to check out flock when I get a mo.

Thanks

A drag and drop?
You can't drag and drop a favicon - unless of course you mean 'drag and drop' into your tool bar? You can drag and drop ANY favicons into that to use as a bookmark. Google 'favicon maker' and you'll get some great sites upfor creating favicons. Make sure you check with your shopping cart/store supplier if it can be uploaded to your site.

Hi Nikki

Just to let you know I managed to get my favicon up. It took some doing actually with my website, but got there in the end. However, it was just another one of those unimportant things that side tracked me and took up too much time when it could have really waited. That's the pitfalls of a computer business, very easy to get distracted!

It looks good though! :o)

He He He - Well at least it looks good! Actually - it does take a bit of time and it may well have been better spent but it does give a site that extra va va voom and it's much nicer to bookmark a site when they have a favicon! :-)

P.S - Just had a peek - and it does look cool!

Hi Remy

I'm not sure what you mean as all bookmarks take you to the website and the favicon only comes up in the browser when you type the url - are you finding it some other way?

One thing I have noticed now in Firefox is that if you click on the favicon it comes up saying 'this site does not supply identity information and the page is not secure' and I wonder if this could put people off. I hate it when these browsers and things do stuff like this as all sites will say the same unless every single page is secured as well as the checkout, but people who are not so savvy may think twice. I wonder if Nikki has any idea on how to make your identity available, is that maybe when you have to do those authenticity certificate thingys?

I have also noticed that the page rank bar in Firefox is rubbish. It keeps exciting me by giving me a higher page rank, then it goes down to a lower one and it would appear it is slow to change from the site I was looking at previously and showing their page ranks on my site!

Hey Helen, what a great question to ask, never even thought about this. But someone please tell me, on an EKM site where the heck do you insert the html code.? Found a website that does them but now I don't know what to do with it lol

http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/

Any help gratefully received.

Love

Hi Jude, I tried this a little while back with my EKM site. If you e-mail EKM with the favicon file they will upload it to their server for you and e-mail you back with it's online URL.
You would then need to use the custom HTML method to include the HTML code you would obtain from elsewhere (usually the site where you made the favicon), which determines the favicon used.
EKM said that they would do all this for me at a cost of £25 + vat.
I have tried uploading it myself but it didn't work & I haven't got round to trying again yet. I will try again though as it seems fairly straightforward.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Karen
